Book Week took place in St. Aidan’s N.S. from Mon 2nd – Friday 6th Dec. This event helps to promote an interest in and love of reading.
Various activities took place during the week such as workshops with visiting writers , Buddy Reading ( Junior and Senior Classes), a Table Quiz, D.E.A.R. Time, (Drop Everything and Read) writing stories and book reports .

The highlight of the week was Character Day on Friday. Pupils and staff all made a huge effort to dress as a character from one of their favourite books.
Junior Infants dressed as witches, dogs,cats, frogs and dragons, all characters from the book Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.
Senior Infants also love Julia Donaldson books. They dressed as characters from Room on a Broom, Tabby McTat, The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Zog

A competition was held in each class and all illustrations, book reports and writing were displayed in the school hall.
The Parents Association sponsored prizes for each class. Congratulations to all the winners.

Classes from 3rd to 6th Class took part in a Table Quiz in the school hall on Wednesday.
On Friday we held a Book Week Assembly in the school hall. Each teacher spoke about the activities their class engaged in over the week and introduced all the book characters from their class! Prizes were awarded to table Quiz winners and competition winners.
We held a Book Fair – lots of children purchased new books. Thanks to the Parents’ Association for all their help at the cash desk!
Overall it was a really enjoyable week. We learned a lot and it makes us all want to read more!
