The Department of Education and Skills and Healthy Ireland encourage ALL schools to organise an Active School Week (ASW) as part of their annual school calendar. The ASW initiative is about providing FUN and INCLUSIVE physical activity opportunities for ALL members of the school community. It allows schools to reinforce the message that not only is physical activity good for you but it also very enjoyable.

Our school took part in the initiative again this year and was once again a great success. The children engaged in a number of different activities including Circuits, Dance, Tai Chi, Gaelic, Boxercise & Dance. Our Wake Up Shake Up each morning culminated in a very successful ‘Rock the Boat’ performance this morning which was enjoyed greatly by all!!
The main aims of our Active Week were to re-generate interest in being more active and to increase the number of minutes spent exercising daily. A lot of fun was had while achieving these aims. A big thank you to all the teachers and SNAs for their enthusiasm in facilitating each of the activities and working out each morning at Wake Up Shake Up! Thank you also to Mrs.Cunnane for the well deserved ice-cream treat today. Well done to the children for the huge effort made in all areas. Our visiting coaches and instructors were impressed with your good manners and energy!
Keep up the great work and keep exercising!!
Mrs.Rushe & Ms.Nyland
