Every year at St. Aidan’s N.S. we hold Book Week which is co-ordinated by Mr. Brendan Donnellan. This year we held our Book week from Mon 25th February to Fri 1st March. During Book Week the children are encouraged to read as much as possible in their spare time with “DEAR” time (Drop Everything And Read) factored into the week’s schedule.
During the week the school is visited by local authors who read some of their work to the children and answer any questions they may have.
This year we had visits from Pete Molineaux, Kate McMahon and June Duffy.
Senior Classes paired with Junior Classes for very enjoyable sessions of paired reading.
Friday was designated as Character Day!! All the classes assembled in the school hall and each class had an opportunity to talk about they various activities they had participated in during the week. (We also had a chance to admire each others costumes).
Winners of colouring/writing competitions recieve their prizes. Thanks to The Parents Association for sponsoring these prizes.
Here we see a sample of the children’s work on display in the school hall for Book week.
On Friday afternoon pupils from 3rd to 6th Class took part in Book Club where they spoke about their favourite book.
