
Goodbye Mrs. Commons!
On 31stOctober 2011, Mary Commons retired after many years teaching in Saint Aidan’s school.
On 28th October2011 the whole school assembled in the school hall along with Mrs. Commons’ family and invited guests to mark this historic occasion.
- As a tribute to her work with the Green Schools, pupils formed a guard of honour waving green flags as Mrs Commons was escorted into the school hall by Mrs. King.
- Special guests included some members of Mrs. Commons' family, some college friends, former colleagues, Jackie Pallas from Children Helping Children, Sharon Cameron, Green Schools Advisor from Mayo Co.Co, members of the Board of Management and Parents Association.
- Mrs King paid tribute to Mrs Commons' dedication and hard work over the years.
- Sharon Cameron spoke about her involvement in Green Schools.
- We all enjoyed the This is your Life presentation reminiscing on memorable moments in Mrs. Commons' life and teaching career!
- Each class presented Mrs. Commons with a card wishing her well on her retirement.
- Mr Commons is presented with flowers from Kiltimagh Credit Union.
- Karen Burke makes presentation to Mrs. Commons on behalf of Parents Association.
- Mrs Commons is presented with a bound copy of a local history project that she and Ms. Lee compiled.
- Here Mrs. Commons is presented with a from Children Helping Children charity.
- Here two teachers make a presentation on behalf of the pupils.
- The pupils of St. Aidan's N.S entertained us all with a variety of song, poetry and music from each class grouping.
- As Mrs Commons called on all the staff to line up, her parting words to the children were that she was leaving them in safe hands!
- Following the assembly we all joined Mary Commons in the school grounds where she planted a tree to mark her retirement from Saint Aidans.
