A special assembly was held in St. Aidan’s N.S. on Wednesday 24th June to mark the retirement of our principal Mrs. King.
The celebrations began with our school band and majorettes welcoming Mrs. King and family at the school gates and escorting them to the school hall.
We all then proceeded to the school hall where Mrs. Cunnane, our Deputy Principal, welcomed everyone to this special event to mark the retirement of Mrs. King and pay a unique tribute to lifetime of dedication and commitment to the school community of Kiltimagh. Guests included former colleagues now retired,members of the Board of Management, Parents Association and Mrs. King’s family and some close friends.
Mrs. King’s sister sent her good wishes by video-link from Australia!
The School Choir, under the direction of Miss Lee entertained us with a favourite song of Mrs. Kings-The Way Old Friends Do and An Irish Blessing.
Former teaching colleague Helen Higgins spoke about working with Mrs. King in St. Aidan’s Girls N.S. This is where Mrs. King began her teaching career. The boys and girls schools amalgamated in 1988. Our former principal Mr. Fogarty then paid tribute to Mrs. King’s career as a teacher in St. Aidan’s N.S. Mrs Cunnane spoke about Mrs. King’s work as principal of our school since 2009 and praised her dedication, commitment and hard work.
We all enjoyed the poem “A Day in the life of Mrs. King” composed by a member of staff.
Junior and Senior Infants sang The Goodbye Song and then presented Mrs. King with class cards.
Senior Infants and First Class Class recited a poem -Farewell Mrs. King! and then presented her with their cards.
Other teachers spoke about Sporting achievements, school building and improvement and projects and initiatives undertaken by the school under Mrs. King’s leadership. Mrs Macken spoke about Mrs. King’s committment and contribution to Special educational Needs in the school.
2nd and 3rd Classes sang a song Turn Turn accompanied by a very entertaining slide show!
Each class presented cards to Mrs King.
Two 4th Class made a presentation of a piece of Genesis on behalf of all the children in the school.
Other speakers included Fr. Kilcoyne ,Chairperson of Board of Management, Karen Burke, Chairperson of Parents Association and Kevin Garvey from Kiltimagh Credit Union.
We all enjoyed the powerpoint presentation This Is you Life created by Miss. Lee.
The assembly concluded with a short video called Reflections compiled by Miss Nyland and Miss McCallion.
Guests were served Afternoon Tea in our school courtyard following the assembly.

Celebrations continued on Thursday with a fun quiz (How well do you know Mrs King?) and open afternoon in the school hall.
On Friday,we all attended a special mass in the Church of the Holy Family to celebrate and wish Mrs. King well as she retires. Finally, on Friday afternoon Mrs. King said Goodbye as the children left the school and locked up for the last time as Principal of St. Aidan’s
