Travel is the fourth theme of the Green-Schools programme. The Travel theme is funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and supported by the National Transport Authority. This theme aims to increase the number of students walking, cycling or carpooling to school.
Principal, Mrs Cunnane, welcomed Dayna and Maggie and congratulated them on their marvellous achievement as part of the Irish Basketball team who were runners up in European Basketball Finals this summer. She also welcomed back two first year pupils Isaac and Lauren, from St Louis Community School who were on the Green Schools Committee when we were awarded our green flag last Spring.
Mrs Commons, Mrs McHugh and the Green Schools Committee spoke about our schools’s involvement in the Green Schools Programme and the efforts and initiatives involved to attain this award. As is customary at all major school events our School Band opened the flag raising ceremony.
Also present were Eva McIntyre, Travel officer from An Taisce, Fr Michael Quinn Chairperson of Board of Management and some members of the Board and retired teachers .
Thanks to Mrs Commons and Mrs McHugh who co-ordinated the Green Schools programme in the school over the past two years.
