
June 6th to 10th was designated “Active Schools Week” in St. Aidan’s. The aim of the week was to promote physical activity, fitness and healthy eating as part of a balanced lifestyle.
Local clubs were contacted and gave very generously of their time and talents to introduce the children to a variety of physical activities that they can become involved in in their local community.
- Classes from 1st to 6th enjoyed practising drills and playing soccer in the astro-turf at St Louis Community school.
- Two players from Kiltimagh Giants Basketball club visited the school on Monday and Tuesday.
- Children from 3rd to 6th class had an opportunity to take part in a basketball session.
- Hip-hop dancing was a big hit with the Senior Infants and 1st Class.
- Junior & Senior Infants and 2nd class enjoyed their introduction to Karate.
- Fourth and fifth classes tried hurling with a member of Tooreen Hurling club.
- The junior classes love playing with our new playground markings!
- Darren Clarke shared some army skills with 6th Class during an orienteering session.
- Classes from Senior Infants to 3rd played bocce at the local bocce court.
- Junior Infants went for a walk to the railway park...
- ...and stopped for a treat on the way back!
- During the week 4th Class, under the direction of Mrs Cunnane prepared a meal using all fresh ingredients.
- They made a fresh fruit salad plate...,
- vegetarian pizzas...
- and a fruit topping for mini pavlovas.
- When the food was ready the whole class enjoyed their 'healthy lunch'!
- On Friday afternoon we had our traditional Sports Day races and events. We all really enjoyed the week.
